So what's a creative girl to do with such a dilemma? Why its make-over time of course...
Ever since I put up this giraffe lithograph (a long ago art project from printmaking class to brighten Melbourne in winter) in the craft/baby room I have been deeply inspired by orange and yellow hues.
So on a recent expedition to spotlight it was all on orange and yellow on my mind and the end result has turned into quite the bright bassinet!
The concept was in some ways more daunting than the execution here, once I took a seam ripper to the original fabric and got those frills and skirts out of the way, the construction turned out to be quite simple.
I took it in three stages, the bed, the basket and the canopy. The bed came together quite well and the basket was simple I just covered the existing fabric and binding with a more complimentary tone. I made my own binding tape using strips of fabric which was time consuming but much easier than I thought it would be.
The canopy was the most daunting of the stages and whilst I'm happy with the outcome I'm not over the moon. I wanted more of a sleek look but got my measurements a little off and it ended up with a bit of a ruffle to it. As it was the last piece of the fantastic acacia tree fabric I'm just going to live with it I think...
The only trouble is now I keep looking at all the other baby stuff and thinking about make-overs or cute covers! Still with the EDD only six days away I don't want to start any projects to big with fear of not getting them done in time.
