Channelling easter...?

With the baby taking its time to make an appearance it is getting harder to sit at the sewing machine and of course energy levels are fairly low. My efforts yesterday were a little off, I had some kind of strange channelling of Easter going on, a rabbit and what has a bit of a strange chicken vibe going on.

The rabbit I tried the idea of the zig zag stitch on the white felt again. I am not sold on the finish creates, it is quick and easy and eliminates the need for turning the fabric but it does end up looking a bit un-finished.

I think I rushed Mr Rabbit a bit, I started thinking he would be more of a snowman than a rabbit but this is how the fabric turned out after cutting. I choose the red vinyl for his face to give him a bit more energy but it looks a little too sunburnt. So I just ran with that hence the wonky mouth and funny eyes.

I feel a bit like Rabbits have been so done, I think I'm disappointed more because he just doesn't look so original, I feel like I could find similar really quickly over at Etsy. Some days the inspiration is just  a  little lacking...

Moving onto the next one, I wanted to use the remainder of the yellow polka-dot flannel, which left me with a bit of an awkward shaped piece of cloth so I cut out the shape that seemed to fit it best. I ended up with a big belly and little arms that have a distinctive chicken like quality.

The face, did help to give the character a different feel, but it wasn't quite right till I made her a little raspberry apron. I knocked this up really quickly with some bias binding and semi circle of the raspberry fabric. I think its quite cute the way it ties at the back and it makes the chicken thing less obvious!

So two new characters to join the party, not sure what the next project is.... Hopefully its a real life character and the newest member of our family...
