All you need is love

Still waiting for the new arrival, school holidays over and back to the days of crafting...

The Beatles were onto something, love does go a long way, not sure its all you need... its nourishing for the soul but body wouldn't survive on love alone. A long standing project of mine to began way back in the days of my first undergrad degree in Printmaking is "What is Love?", today I continued the theme with some love heart softies. But they were far from lovely to make.

I began with the idea directly inspired by my old etchings of a love heart with arms and legs, but she had really trouble getting her legs to sit right, I wanted the legs going straight down the softie preferred they splayed out... She looks ok when the legs are crossed, I may have to stitch them together like this!

To appease my disappointment with the arms and legs heart, I thought I'd try one with wings. I have come to the conclusion that heart just aren't a very friendly shape to work with, the wings looked quite good before I attached them to the heart but together it just looks a bit odd.

And because two felt wrong I went for a third heart, using the last scrap of the red fleece and a felt arrow, again nothing great here but at least I have the hearts out of my system...

Not yet satisfied with the days crafting I had an idea to create a doll that reflected my mood, well a pregnant doll anyways. Being nearly 41 weeks pregnant I am feeling quite the bump, and so is little Pregnant Polly...

She's all bump and little else, I gave her brads for eyes and tight lipped embroidered mouth and then thought she better have some limbs so hand sewed some little arms.

She was a bit lonely so I kept going and along came Rascal Rick, part pirate, part wizard perhaps...

His hat head was calling out for a bell but I found an old earring for him to wear and then he needed a belt. His toothy grin was mouth number four as the embroidery options just weren't working for him.

And together they make quite a cute pair.
